Is CPU mining even worth the Ether?

I would like to commence mining Ether, but my GPU isn’t the greatest and I don’t indeed want to spend the money on a dedicated equipment. Is mining from my CPU (ter a Linux environment) still worth the Ether? Or will I not be able to keep up?

Some numbers – running ethminer on my CPU gives mij a hashrate of 0.248 megahashes vanaf 2nd (MH/s). For comparison, each of my over-clocked AMD R9 390X GPUs gives mij a hashrate of about 31.58 MH/s. My GPU gives mij 127x the hashrate of my CPU. It is a lowish end CPU AMD FX(tm)-6350 6 core processor and with motherboard + CPU + disk drive + ventilatoren consumes about 200 Watts, or Four.8 kilowatt-hours (kWh) vanaf day.

Plugging thesis numbers into https://etherscan.io/ether-mining-calculator gives mij an expected earning of

0.004790 ETH (USD 0.06) vanaf day or 0.033536 ETH (USD 0.39) vanaf week. My cost of tens unit

USD .17 vanaf kWh is USD 0.816 vanaf day which is 13.6x the value of the ETH earned.

Compare the above to my Two x R9 390X GPUs mining equipment. Hashrate is

62.8 MH/s. Again from the mining rekenmachine, my expected earning is 1.210311 ETH (USD 14.16) vanaf day or 8.4722 (USD 99.12) vanaf week. Mining equipment consumes

700 watts. This is equal to 700 x 24 = 16,800 watt-hours vanaf day, or 16.8 kWh. 16.8 kWh x USD .17 vanaf kWh = USD Two.85 vanaf day te electro-therapy.

Just reminisce that the cost of your GPUs may possibly not be recouped by the time that the Ethereum network switches from proof of work to proof of stake when GPU mining will be obsolete.

Spil other’s have mentioned, mining Ether with a CPU would not be efficient – GPUs can hash an order of magnitude quicker.

However, CPU mining is still viable on the Ethereum Morden testnet!

I don’t believe it’s worth it. I believe the CPU is a few hundred times slower than most GPUs.

I mined a few hundred ether te the beginning, but it quickly became cheaper to just buy the ether.

I think you will be better off just buying the ether rather than spending money on electro-stimulation not to mention the toegevoegd strain on your rekentuig hardware.

If you know the power usage and hash rate of your system you can lightly calculate if it is worth it.

Depends what you understand by “worth”. If all you want is a lil’ amount of ether (<,1.0) to run some basic contracts, then it might work.

But you should consider comparing your CPU hash rate with your GPU hash rate.

GUIMiner is a graphical frontend for mining Bitcoin, providing a convenient way to operate Bitcoin miners from a graphical interface. It supports both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs, spil well spil CPU mining. You can choose inbetween pooled mining and solo mining – the software embeds a list of mining pools to choose from.

There’s no need to come in connection details by hand, unless you want to.

Displays hash rate, total shares accepted/invalid, and total shares te the past hour.

Do it from within the GUI, at participating pools.

The tray icon can be hovered to demonstrate statistics, and miners can be paused from the tray setting menukaart.

You can download GUIMiner from the official GitHub repo.

Have a look at the official forum thread on BitcoinTalk.

Ter order to mine Litecoin, you have to use GUIMiner-scrypt.

What is GUIMiner-scrypt?

GUIMiner-scrypt is a GUIMiner fork for mining scrypt chains, such spil Litecoin.

MultiMiner has excellent support for not just ASIC and GPU mining, but CPU mining spil well.

However, ter order to take advantage of CPU mining you will need to compile a copy of BFGMiner with CPU mining enabled. While MultiMiner and BFGMiner both support CPU mining, none of the binaries for BFGMiner come with CPU mining enabled spil it greatly simplifies using the contraptions for malware.

You can find instructions for building BFGMiner ter its README opstopping. If you are mining on Windows please see thesis instructions which include details for enabling CPU mining.

You will need to ensure BFGMiner is configured and compiled with –enable-cpumining

Fastest CPU Miner

I have a Windows Server with 20 cores at Two.Ten Ghz (AMD Opteron 4171 HE). I am presently using Ufasoft CPU miner and getting about 35 Mhash/s.

I want to know what is the fastest CPU miner that I can use.

The official bitcoin client from bitcoin.org has a CPU mining option. Add a opstopping named bitcoin.conf to the bitcoin gegevens directory, with the contents gen=1

I know this is an old question but recently I got a similar server.

I’ve tested rpcminer, GUI Miner (Which is actually UFASoft miner).

Personally the best I’ve found is CPUMiner. With a hash rate of about 75MH/s, it takes a bit of setting up spil CPUMiner is normally used for Litecoin mining. CPUMiner talent mij about 10%-20% more than the closest rival, which wasgoed rpcminer.

I’ve placed the following text ter a .bat verkeersopstopping that starts CPUMiner with the onberispelijk arguments.

The last Two options are

-a sha256d – This tells CPUMiner to use the sha256 algorithm, used for Bitcoin mining.

-R Two – Indicates the number of seconds to wait for when the pool cannot be found. I know this seems a little soon, but switch yours to whatever you want.

The original question wasgoed [sic] “What is the fastest CPU miner that I could use”. Based on the answers, it seems, that everyone by default went to cpuminer/minerd. I use it also. However.

bfgminer (all except the latest version) has the capability to be used spil a cpu miner. I have not bot able to optimize mine yet but I do know that it is an exceptionally wise miner with many options that can be set for spectacle.

So, cpuminer/minerd is excellent for being able to download and mine with your cpu all with no extensive testing, tweaking, etc. But if you want something that you can play around with, tweak, also to have built te Stratum, etc, then you may want to also dl bfgminer and play around. Especially if you want to cpu mine other altstem coins (ie BBQ, Alpha, Xen, etc—anything with a low difficulty).

And if the day comes where you are ready to mine with a gpu, bfgminer is most likely going to be one of the miners you will use.

You might be better off doing it by forearm.

But mining speed varies by application. I might have the same pc here but there is a defect te one of the prongs on the cpu, it might always run .1Mhash slower than any other chip. Yours might run swifter. No one can tell you how prompt or how much better software might run for you.

It is a very hard question to reaction, send mij your server and I’ll test it out for you. Or you could just download a few miners, attempt them out, and determine which works better for you.

Wij recommend upgrading to the latest Safari, Google Chrome, or Firefox.
